It’s time for our next meet the team video!
Last month we kicked off with our Founder and CEO, Craig Turner! Missed that one? Take a look here. This time around we’re shining the spotlight on our Content and Marketing Manager, Rachel.
Check out our video to learn more about how she got into Marketing, as well as her impact startup recommendations, career tips and more.
Or, if you’re more of a reader, check out the blog post below.
How did you first get into Marketing?
So I did English and Creative Writing at Uni, which I absolutely loved. And then I always knew that I wanted to do a job where I got to do creative writing and just be creative in general. So then I fell into Digital Marketing and copywriter/content roles and just went from there really.
What’s one piece of career advice you’d give someone?
So one piece of career advice I'd give someone is perseverance - just keep going. Even though it can be hard with rejections and things like that, you've just got to always pick yourself up and keep going. And then second piece of advice: always save your CV as a PDF.
What did you want to be growing up?
My whole life I've always loved writing, so I did want to be a writer and write books which hasn't happened yet but could still happen - who knows.
What does a typical day in the home office look like for you?
So a usual day for me working from home is starting work around 8am - lots of writing and content creation which is great. Then I'll have little breaks and maybe go for a walk, then lots of cuddles with Teddy my giant house bunny.
Which one impact startup would you recommend people check out
One impact startup that I'd recommend to people is Who Gives a Crap. They're an Australian toilet paper brand and they make their TP from recycled materials. And they also donate a big chunk of their profits to developing countries to help build toilets out there so to really help other communities.
Which volunteering day have you enjoyed the most and why?
My favourite volunteering day has actually been the Brighton beach clean-up. Even though it was raining I just thought it was so nice to be outside on the beach - and I love Brighton anyway so it was just a nice day and super satisfying as well to pick up all the different bits of plastic and rubbish.
What’s the best thing you’ve listened to recently?
I listen to a lot of podcasts while I work because I like to have something on in the background. The best one I've listened to recently is Sweet Bobby, which is a true-crime/fraud podcast all about catfishing.
What’s your biggest fear?
My biggest fear is definitely birds, which the rest of the team knows. So whenever we're in London it's a lot of fun walking around all the pigeons. Yeah I just hate them.
What’s been your biggest achievement?
One of my biggest achievements has been getting a First for my dissertation at Uni. It was an extended piece of creative writing that I had been working on all year, so I was really pleased to get a First for it.
When are you at your happiest?
I'm a massive foodie, so I'm probably at my happiest when trying out new veggie or vegan food options, especially dining out. Or just spending time with friends and family.
Tell us something we don’t know about you
I'm actually growing my hair to donate it. So I'm trying to get it to roughly 16 inches – that's how long the charity would like it - so that's the Little Princess Trust. You can donate your hair to be made into wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness and other things.
And now for a quick round of ‘this or that’!
Keep an eye out for our next meet the team video next month!
